Wilkommen!

We now deliver from Manor Octoberfest!!!  Food, that is... Not lederhosen.  You asked for this place since they opened up a location in Atlas Park Shops.  The menu is a typical German fair, filled with schnitzels and bratwursts and potato salads.  Oh! and smoked bacon! That stuff is awesome with beer.

Take-Out Connection, as you know, doesn not work with restaurants we don't like.  So we went to Manor Ortoberfest in Forest Hills (73-11 Yellowstone blvd).  They are great.  Appetizers are sized for sharing.  German stuff is really good.  There are some American items, just in case your date is not into liverwursts.  We definitely recommend you try the place.  91 items to choose from - Braunschweiger among them. Guten Appetit für Sie  !!!!

One Doctors' Office Lunch Reform

While the politicians are pretending to try to fix the compromise of the average drawn upon the collective agreement regarding the health care (or something like that), one doctor took the initiative and revolutionized modern medicine.  Well... almost.  Dr. B., a gastroenterologist with the 12 year practice in Forest Hills, is taking control of his medical practice in a two step process.

First, he needs the office to work "better."  "We open at 8.  The first appointment is never before 9," Dr. B. says.  Why? According to him, it is important to let everyone in the office devote a portion of their morning to some customary a.m. ritual.  "I want them to dedicate some time to get the coffee the absolutely perfect shade of tan," said he, obviously pleased with his own joke.   Everyone sits in the waiting room and eases into the workday with breakfast, the update of the commute and parking, and general office small talk.

"I like this morning thing," says the doctor. "The problem is lunch."  Since they never had a set office lunch hour, the entire afternoon turned into a lunch-related activity.  What are we gonna eat? What time should we eat? Are you hungry now? Should I eat later? Do we have snacks? Where is Take-Out Connection book? Call them to see if Punta Sal is open? Do we want Dees or Uno's? Who is placing the order? "It's like the staff had no time to schedule appointments and do the billing," says Mrs. B, the doctor's wife and the office manager.  She noticed that at least one person is preoccupied with food at any given time.  "Our business should be your digestive tract, not ours."

So, she called Ollie at Take-Out Connection.  He, together with his partners at QueensDelivers.com, put together a menu for her:  a salad, two different pastas, and a chicken dish;  seafood on Fridays.  Mexican Wednesdays;  drinks and utensils.  The girls contribute a few dollars. The doc and his wife pick up the rest of the tab.  Sometimes, they have presenters from medical supply companies, so they'll pay for lunch.  "The bottom line is that lunch is no longer a topic here.  It comes at 1 pm.  Big trays.  You eat, throw out the plate, go back to work.  End of story,"  says the doctor.  Do they have a way to measure the increase in office productivity? "Of course! The billing is done faster, lab work and referrals are up to date!"

So, Dr. B., what about that health care bill? "That's step two.  I already dropped Medicaid - too much crap.  We'll see what happens."

Weather Update

As always, we are open before, during, and after the snowstorm.  Our drivers are coming in on their own volition and the restaurants are planning on staying open.  Unless the roads become completely unnavigable or the law enforcement ask us to get off the road, we'll be open.

In the last 15 years we closed for half dozen days due to snow.  We consider "snow" to be tiny frozen water crystals that gently fall from the winter sky, not a heart-stopping, cataclysmic event.  So, unless the amount of snow prevents us from accessing your street or block, please, consider ordering in from our member restaurants as well as grocery items and frozen dinners from Ollie's delight.

As a matter of fact, we love the snow.  The streets are empty of cars.  The sidewalks are clean.  The air is fresh.  And the Gardens are a treat to drive through.

Congratulations to 1.2 million New York City children for getting an unexpected day off.  Have fun and be safe!

Superbowl Party

Go team!!!

It doesn't matter which two teams make it to the Super Bowl.  Even if you are a devoted fan, who talks incessantly about the odds of your team making it, you are talking about a 50/50 chance.  It's like having a lengthy conversation about flipping a coin.  So, instead of talking about the effects of personal injuries on the outcome of the game or some such, please, plan ahead and think about what you're going to EAT.

Here are your options:
  • Go out to a sports bar.  Downside: you might me stuck standing next to a really drunk Canadian dude in a hockey jersey talking about how much better hockey is than football.
  •
  • Go to the supermarket.  Good luck impressing your friends with potato chips and pretzels!  And don't forget to pick up some of that gross yellow cheese dip, which is so full of chemicals, it makes you glow in the dark.
  •
  • Call us and found out about our catering specials.  This year, have us deliver the necessities (buffalo wings, potato skins, ribs) or step it up and get grilled chorizo & calamari on a bed of arugula or a tray of vegetable dip.  AND we'll give you free beer - Simpler Times Pilzner -which looks much cooler than Bud or Coors.  Check it out! or order from our member restaurants at www.takeoutconnection.com
  •
  • OR, if you're still human, call 718-894-8888 and talk to a real person who actually eats.  Ask for Ollie.  Put him in charge of your Super Bowl Party.  And relax, for a change!  Simpler Times is on us, get it?
